Why timber

A warm, natural fence that feels like home

Timber is a classic for a reason. It softens the look of a yard and does the everyday jobs a fence should do. Here is what our customers love about it.

Natural warm look

Timber has a warmth that steel can't match, and it sits beautifully against a garden or an older home.

Real privacy

Close-fitted palings block the view and take the edge off street noise, so the backyard feels like yours again.

Keeps kids and dogs safe

A solid boundary with no gaps at the bottom, so the little ones and the dog stay where they should be.

Good-neighbour finish

Build it double-sided and it looks just as good from your neighbour's yard, which keeps everyone happy along the fence line.

Suits any home

From a Queenslander to a new build, timber blends in and lifts your street appeal, handy if you are thinking of selling.

Cost-effective for a big yard

Treated pine is a budget-friendly way to fence a long boundary or a big block without cutting corners.

Your options

Timber styles to suit your place

There is more to a timber fence than meets the eye. Here are the styles we build, and we will help you pick the one that suits your place when we come and measure up.

Butted paling

Palings butted up side by side for a solid, private fence. The classic backyard timber fence.

Lapped paling

Each paling overlaps the next, so there are no gaps to see or squeeze through, even as the timber moves over time.

Lap and cap

Lapped palings finished with a capping rail along the top, for a neat, tidy edge.

Good neighbour

Palings alternate from one side to the other, so the fence looks the same from both yards. A fair, tidy finish for a shared boundary.

Treated batten

Battens for a cleaner, more modern take on a timber fence, spaced for a bit of airflow or set close for full privacy.

Picket fence

A classic picket fence for the front yard, with that timeless street appeal.

Pine or hardwood? We usually recommend treated pine. It is the cost-effective option, and these days treated pine lasts within a close range of hardwood while keeping a sleek, clean finish. Hardwood is a great choice too, it just needs a bit more upkeep, so we recommend sanding and staining it for the best finish and the longest life. We will talk you through both when we quote.

Questions

Timber fencing FAQs

How much does a timber fence cost?

Every yard is different, so we come out and give you a price after a free measure-up. It comes down to the length, the height, whether you go treated pine or hardwood, and whether the old fence needs removing. There is no obligation to go ahead.

Treated pine or hardwood?

We usually recommend treated pine. It is the cost-effective option, and these days treated pine lasts within a close range of hardwood, with a sleek, clean finish. Hardwood is a great choice too, it just needs a bit more upkeep, so we recommend sanding and staining it for the best finish and the longest life. Either way we will give you honest advice on what suits your place.

How long does a timber fence last?

A well-built timber fence lasts many years. Treated pine holds up well against rot and termites and keeps its finish with next to no work, and hardwood lasts longer again with a sand and stain now and then to keep it looking its best.

Do you do good-neighbour fences?

Yes. A good-neighbour fence has the palings alternating side to side, so it looks the same from both yards. It is a fair, tidy finish that keeps everyone happy along the boundary.

What styles of timber fence do you do?

Plenty. Butted paling, lapped paling, lap and cap, good-neighbour fences, treated batten, and picket fences. We will talk you through the look that suits your place when we come and measure up.

Do you remove the old fence?

Yes, we can pull out and take away the old fence as part of the job. Just let us know when we come to quote.
